Book a Spa Day for Your 4-Legged Best Friend

Looking to pamper and beautify your dog before the holidays? Maybe thinking of adding regular grooming to you New Year's Resolutions for your furry best friend? Heather Barnes out of Rigby will travel to surrounding areas, including Ashton, with her mobile dog spa to do nails and grooming for owners.

Barnes, who has always loved animals, loves being able to spend time with different animals she helps care for and loves teaching owners how to properly groom their pets to keep them not just looking good but also feeling well and healthy.

"My goal is to have a pet to have silent paws walking as being able to hear their nails on the ground or curling over is not only annoying but also very uncomfortable for them and can cause internal damage to the toe," Barnes said.

One of the hardest things in the business for Barnes is trying to get owners of pets to understand just how important grooming is for their fur babies.

"It is not only my responsibility but also theirs to keep and maintain a good tangle free coat condition," Barnes said. "This includes a good routine schedule with a local groomer."

Although based out of Rigby, Barnes will travel to the Firth/Shelley area, Menan, Roberts, Teton, Iona, Ucon, Ashton and other nearby places. She travels to Island Park as well during spring, summer and autumn months before winter sets in.

Barnes began learning to groom while in high school when she began work as a bather in a salon in Billings, Montana, where she was born and raised. As time went on she began to learn more about grooming and fall in love with it. She began her personal mobile business in the summer of 2021, starting as just a nail trimming business and eventually expanding to a full-service dog spa.

Providing love and care for pets makes Barne's heart sing. She talked about a recent experience with a very badly matted mixed breed dog. Over the course of several months, and the help of the owner, she transformed this dog into a beautiful healthy-looking dog. However, the process involved time and lots of work from her and the owner including many haircuts and clippings and baths and brushing.

Barnes and the owner had to use a muzzle at first because the dog was not used to grooming and was in pain and frightened.

"Now we are on a 4-week schedule, and we brush and comb to maintain the hair throughout the winter in hopes come spring it will be a much easier process," Barnes said. "We are also able to do everything muzzle free!"

Barnes hopes to eventually have a set stable clientele base and schedule so she knows what her schedule will be each month and knows her clients.
