  Nov 21 Ashton A dead deer was reported across Highway 20 in the Northbound Lane at the bottom of the Ashton hill.  Someone backed into a power box and knocked out heating at the Junior High School. An unknown vehicle was reported parked at the end of someone's driveway for 10 days on 700 North. Police responded to residences on Whispering Pines for an argument between 2 neighbors and a dog who kept whining at the neighbor's door at night. Island Park Kids were reported sledding into the road at Macks Inn. Police assisted someone locked in Sawtelle to work on the tower with a key that didn't work. Extra patrol was requested for a residence on Highway 87 to be on the lookout for possible hunters trespassing on snowmobiles. Juvenile Probation Gets a Makeover

Over the past decade the juvenile justice system has slowly begun embracing new science in adolescent behavior and brain growth. Chief Probation Officer Darin Burrell said the juvenile probations office works with other agencies and therapists to try and get kids help rather than sticking them in a jail cell.  "I think the system is getting better at working with kids that need help," Burrell said. "There's a lot of research that helps us get better at what we do to help people change. We're definitely not perfect but I do think we're getting better." The teens are still expected to be held accountable for their actions but that could mean different things for different kids. Some kids may need addiction help or mental health care. Some kids may need to get out of a bad family situation. "At least in Fremont County we do our best not to treat every kid or family the same because they're different," Burrell said.   OCT 31 ASHTON Someone hit a deer headed south on Highway 20. ISLAND PARK An ambulance was called for a head injury on Highway 20. Theft was reported at Timbers Condominiums after someone siphoned gas out of 2 company vehicles. A suspicious person report was called in on Highway 20 when a vehicle ran out of gas and the caller stopped to help and gave the person gas. The caller told police the driver was acting strangely like he might be on something. NOV 1 ASHTON An accident was reported with a hay truck on Squirrel Road. A suspicious person was called in at Jacksons when a man ran behind the building and hid and then came back out and started going through the dumpster. He then ran down the road to Wynn's and hid in the doorway there. NOV 2 ASHTON An arrest was made at the Imperial Club for driving without privileges.   October 24 Ashton Someone reported a suspicious vehicle sitting on the East side of the river on their property on 4000 East. There was a cow close to Highway 20 near Tri State Tire. Fraud was reported at Jacksons when a person was going around saying they lost their credit cards and needed money to get to the Salt Lake airport. Island Park An accident was reported on Highway 20 with the vehicle on the side of the highway with all 4 wheels up. October 25 Ashton An arrest was made for inattentive driving on Highway 20. Cows were loose in the Jolly Camper RV campground. A rollover accident was reported on Highway 20. Island Park A vehicle hit a deer on Highway 20 about 4 miles south of the Osborn Bridge. The caller told police the deer was still alive, and he would put it down. A committee of several Island Park residents have spent the past summer beginning the process to build a community center for Island Park.  The center, which committee chairman Ron Folsom hopes will break ground in Fall of 2023, may include a sports facility, entertainment center and kitchen among many other services for both residents and tourists to Island Park.  "I think a community center would be a huge attraction to visitors and full-time residents," said committee member Teri Ehresman. "We need a place to let people know about the many unique features of Island Park, to let them purchase Island Park related items and to learn about the history of the area. We urgently need a meeting place for small and large group gathering as well. This would be a great hub for the community." In order to fund the facility an election will be held in May 2023 to make Island Park an auditorium or community center district and charge a 5% lodging tax on all hotels, motels and
