National Bomb Pop Day

Image
What better way to remember our childhood days of ice cream trucks and 4th of July BBQs than the bomb pop? I remember as a child the hot hot Texas sun where I grew up and playing outside in my shorts and tank tops hearing that musical chime of the truck come down our block. I remember the pure joy I felt as I ran inside to beg my mom for money for ice cream. I remember the icy taste of the popsicle in my mouth while my body cooled slightly from the extreme Texas heat of the summer.  This delicious treat was created during the Cold War between the United States and Russia. While the original bomb pops included three flavors of cherry, lime and blue raspberry today there are many more flavor and color options to choose from.  You can buy some of this iconic treat at Walmart or Albertsons in Rexburg to celebrate the summer and the 4th of July.

1. What is your goal for this year?  My goal this year is to support teachers and students. It will take me a little time to get acquainted with everyone, but I'm excited for the new challenge.  2.  What do you look forward to this year?  I most look forward to working with middle school/high school age students. I've enjoyed working at an elementary school for the past year, but I always felt more comfortable working with older students.  3. What is your favorite thing about being a principal?  My favorite thing about being a principal is seeing all of the hard work that goes into raising kids. Whether that is through teachers putting in tons of time, or meeting with supportive parents. The saying "it takes a village to raise a kid" is very true from my experience.  4.  What is your biggest challenge as a principal?  The biggest challenge to being a principal is seeing students who are going through hard times, especially when those hard times are completely out of t

Spirit, the first Montana grizzly bear to be rescued by the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, was sent to the center when she continued to find food at human occupied places. Efforts to relocate her just resulted in her coming back to the same places for food again. Last month Idaho Fish and Game were forced to put down a mom and her 2 yearlings who became aggressive toward humans around their food. Unfortunately, due to an increase in the number of people visiting and moving to Island Park this may become a new reality if individuals don't do more to keep bears away.      Randy Gravatt, facility manager at the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, has lived in Island Park for almost three decades and worked at the center for 23 years. Gravatt has helped with the program that uses the bears to test garbage cans and other items for bear safety. Before using live bears, items used to be tested by machines.      One of the greatest dangers and r
